Through The Fire

Through The Fire

Fire had been an important element to us. Be it through culture or religion. Fire can be treated good or bad depending on how we use it. Mostly to us, when we talk fire, hell is the first thing that comes to our mind; that one place surrounded by gigantic flames with endless torturing, suffering and punishment in the afterlife. Yet, let us not forget how we were also helped with this element.

Fire had been useful through ages. It helps us in cooking our food. Blacksmiths uses fire to forge swords and armors even during the ancient times. Potters also use fire to harden their masterpiece. We even make use of it whenever there is blackout so we can see through the dark of night. It can even help us when we are out of the woods by using torch and fire to help us guide our way. Or even make a bonfire out of dry woods to make us warm and safe all night when we are in a camp trip.

How Great Thou Art- Malaybalay City Sunset

How Great Thou Art Malaybalay City Sunset

This photograph was taken at the Provincial Tree Park of commonly known as the Two Tress located at Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. We started to climb the hill at about 5pm simply because the need for exercise and because we want to witness the sunset. The climb had become easy and more of a routine for some of my friends while for me, I just had to stop at some point and catch my breath before I continue on climbing.

The moment I reached the hilltop, I got stunned, my jaw dropped and just that giggly kind of feeling while I’m starring eyes wide open at the work of art. It’s almost kind of weird with what I am feeling at that moment. I had felt so much joy as I am watching it. I almost wanted to cry, tears of joy that is. Well it is weird for me because I remembered when I was young, whenever the cloud turns orange and the sun is setting in, I would always feel that weird butterflies in my tummy. My body would turn cold as I watched it and tendency is I would always want to cry because all I see is like it’s the end of the world. I feel like dying. Whenever I see that orange cloud and the setting sun, I would instantly get my sight out of it and go back in to our house. But after I saw this scene again, I noticed I am no longer afraid of it. And to know and to be able to hear God’s word, I am no longer afraid of the end of the world or even dying.

Monastery of Transfiguration, a place for perfect serenity

Monastery of Transfiguration, a place for perfect serenity

This pyramid shaped architecture is the Monastery of the Transfiguration chapel located on the slopes of San Jose, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. Hidden beyond the trees and hills that are planted with coffee lies a breath taking architecture. The famed Monastery of the Benedictine Monks or commonly known as Monastery of the Transfiguration’s Chapel, was designed by the late National artist Leandro Locsin.

When I was still young, me and my family would always go to the chapel for Sunday mass or sometimes tour our relatives to this famous chapel. Back then, it was still not the pyramid shaped chapel. Their first chapel (now the old monastery) was a small 2-storey building made of wood. The old monastery was nearer but the ambiance was still the same. I would hear my grandparents say that Benedictine monks live there and devote to vow of silence and continued prayer. It has been said that monks pray 7 times a day starting at 3:40 AM. Read more…
