The brownish “stains” might be “attractors” for pollination.

It looks like a gumamela but it’s not. It doesn’t have a pistil(?) coming out from the center. Besides, the leaves are not saw-toothed. I think it is related to the gumamela though. The plant itself grow similarly like that of the gumamela.

I found this along a pathway through the fields in Bula, Camarines Sur. As a matter of fact, it was the only plant of its kind there. Probably not endemic to that area.

This is found in the Adoration Chapel in the Shrine of Our Lady of Penafrancia in Naga City Philippines. Taken around 3 pm with my Fujifilm A303 when the afternoon light peers through the majestic rendition of the last night of our Lord.
