That’s What Friends Are For

It’s very impossible to live in this world without friends. We all need friends and everybody needs a friend. A friend is someone you can turn to not just in times of happiness but also during sadness and troubles. If you are a friend, it means that you were chosen. You became a friend not because by happenstance or by accident. You are part of someone’s life because that person chooses you to be there.

Unlike in family, we have the freedom to choose our friends. They said that “Birds of the same feather flocks together.” This is really true. Friendship is built because you share the same ideas, thoughts and interest with your friends. Even though you were raised in different families, different culture and different beliefs, you would still find that common thing among yourselves that will bind your friendship.

Carabao, a farmer’s best friend.

Subject of the photograph is Carabao or kalabaw. It was taken from a ricefield of Simaya, Malaybalay City. It is considered Filipino’s faithful partners in life. It is a water buffalo that is endemic in South East Asia. It plays an important role especially to the life of Filipino farmers. They are the ones who assist farmers from planting until harvest time. I grew up in a farm and I have seen it myself the importance and perseverance of carabaos. Aside from its usefulness in the rice field, it was also used as means of transportation in our place especially in transporting heavy goods from one place to another. It will pull a “carabao cart” which usually carries sacks of rice, fruits, vegetables and even people. During my childhood years, we used to ride at the back of Carabaos- it was just like riding a horse only that carabaos don’t run. Read more…
